The
Private Reserves Network’s is a US-based non-profit organization whose mission is to improve and
expand private conservation worldwide by creating a network
of individuals, organizations, and private protected areas. Through
outreach, PRN encourages private landowners and organizations to become part of the first international
network of private reserves.
Our
Vision at PRN is to become the
central figure in the arena of global private protected
areas by creating a strong member base, remaining on the
cutting edge of private conservation, and acting as the
primary marketing tool in attracting tourists to private
reserves worldwide.
History

The Private Reserves Network started
in the Winter of 2007 when three graduate students took
a seminar project on protected areas policy to create
a website where private conservationists can exchange
ideas on best practices. The original idea developed under
the guidance of Dr. Jeffrey Langholz, Associate Professor
at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and
an authority on private protected areas.
Since PRN's inauguration, staff have
traveled throughout Latin America visiting member parks,
speaking with stakeholders, and developing plans for future
PRN projects with the purpose of improving and expanding
private conservation worldwide.
